This year’s conference was held between the annual meeting of ISPOR (2-6 June in Washington DC) and the American Diabetes Association Congress (8-12 June in Philadelphia).

The conference focused on the economic aspects of diabetes and its complications. A major focal point of the conference was a comparison of health economic diabetes models both in terms of their structure and performance. The challenges included how diabetes computer simulation models predict vascular and other complications in different settings across the world, how to deal with uncertainty, and a comparison of techniques with cancer simulation models. The conference also had open sessions on all aspects of the health economics of diabetes.
