A collaboration between HERC researchers and those in Malaysian has found that mortality rates among people with type 2 diabetes in Malaysia have stagnated over the period 2009-2018 and worsened among those with prior CVD or long diabetes duration. This is in stark contrast with other studies in high income countries, where mortality rates have fallen. Death rates in people with diabetes were 1.8 times higher than for the general Malaysian population.
