Increasing numbers of studies estimate health state preference values by mapping from one clinical or patient-reported outcome measure onto generic preference-based measures, such as EQ-5D. The MAPS reporting statement comprised the first guideline listing the key items that need to be reported in papers describing mapping studies. This aims to help authors, editors and reviewers to improve the clarity, transparency and completeness of reporting. The MAPS statement forms part of the EQUATOR network.
