Anees A Abdul Pari joined the Health Economics Research Centre at Oxford University’s Department of Public Health in 2010. He is a specialist registrar and has obtained the NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Public Health at the University of Oxford.

He earned his Medical degree from DR. MG.R Medical University, India in 2003. He was a recipient of the European Union’s prestigious scholarship “Erasmus Mundus”, and went on to complete dual Masters in Public Health from University of Sheffield, and MSc with a specialisation in health economics and financial management from Jagiellonian University, Poland. In the past, he has worked as a researcher in Health economics at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He also has worked as a field consultant on behalf of WHO in Tuberculosis control in India, and as a medical consultant for Population services international for control of sexually transmitted infections in southern India.

As a part of his service work, he has conducted a study assessing the trends in childhood Tuberculosis, and uptake of neonatal BCG vaccine in Berkshire West PCT, UK. He has also taken a lead role in identify the health needs, health related quality of life, and utilisation of healthcare services for offenders managed on Thames valley probation caseload.

He is currently working on a 3-year DPhil study, evaluating the cost-effectiveness of mood-monitoring system, collaborative disease management and pharmacotherapy in the management of Bipolar disorder in the UK. Furthermore, his research aims to transfer this technology in order to improve health care outcomes, particularly for the people suffering with Bipolar disorder, in settings of limited resources. A pilot study has been planned to evaluate the feasibility of integrating collaborative disease management using True Colours-like SMS-based mood monitoring for people with bipolar disorder in India, and of assessing its clinical, quality-of-life, health services and broader economic effects.
