© Oxford University Press, 2014.Macrovascular disease is the major cause of premature death in diabetes. The ageadjusted mortality from coronary heart disease (CHD) is 2-4 times higher than in the non-diabetic population. The major role of screening for diabetes is to diagnose it early to prevent or delay the complications. This chapter presents the arguments for and against screening for diabetes, and how this should be done.
